Advice

Top Wedding Wardrobe Tips: –

#1 – Don’t leave it too late to order! – Most Bridal Gowns take 6-8 months to arrive. In most cases, fittings and alterations are then usually initiated around two months before the wedding day itself. Even without including the extra time that can be spent with any Bridesmaids, Mother of the Bride and Maid of Honour outfits, at least a year ahead is not too early to secure your dream Gown!

#2 – Be flexible! –  There are certainly some beautiful images in Bridal magazines and on designer websites. However, unless you are an exact clone of the model herself, there is only one real way to ensure the dress that has got your heart fluttering is going to be the one… To try it on. Or at least something similar…

The cleverest way of using advertising photos is to find a certain style and features that most appeal to you and then use these to make your choice. A massive advantage of this method is often to find a superior look that suits you perfectly and is substantially less expensive. We pride ourselves at Blushes by making that very satisfying thing happen for most of our Brides.

#3 – Consider your alterations! –  Over 90% of Bridal orders will need alterations of some kind, from the hem of a Bridesmaid dress to the re-shaping of a bodice. Firstly, check the shop you are purchasing from preferably has a dedicated in-house specialist Bridal seamstress and your goods are not just being farmed out to any local companies that will take on the work. Apart from the obvious risks, check the prices of any likely alterations done using independent companies, it can be surprisingly expensive.  At Blushes, our two Bridal alteration specialists are at your fingertips and each have over 25 years experience.

#4 –   Beware the internet! –  Unfortunately, we are increasingly left picking up the pieces when Brides-to-be order Gowns, accessories, underwear, shoes, etc etc from online companies. Usually price is the enticing hook but like so many things in life, you really do tend to get what you pay for. With something as important as your special look for your special day, we have found it rarely ends well. ALL the professional Bridal Gown designers realise that the only real way to make sure their creations are best matched, presented and selected is to choose professional Bridal specialist outlets as partners.

#5 – Don’t try and please everyone! –  It can sometimes be an emotionally confusing experience when choosing your dream look. Although constructive input from Mums, Aunties, Sisters, other relatives and friends can be useful, it is not their day. It is yours. When you find the designer and accessories that truly make you happy, try to compromise as little as humanly possible.
